Miners agree with this way to solve the strike that has been going on for 16 years among members of the National Union of Mine, Metal, Steel and Similar Workers of the Mexican Republic at the mines owned by German Larrea, located in Sombrerete, Zacatecas; Taxco, Guerrero, and Cananea, Sonora.
Their spokespersons stated on Monday that one of the longest labor conflicts in the history of the country ‘would go to international panels in which the governments of the United States and Canada would determine if there is a violation of the workers’ human rights’.
Nahir Antonio Velasco, legal coordinator of the Mining Union, considered that the legal triumph against the multimillionaire Larrea can be achieved.
Before representatives of several union sections, Velasco recalled ‘we won one by one all the legal resources, all appeals, including the one that reached the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, where with a unanimous vote it was determined that the right to strike is above any other comparable right’.
