Hainan Airlines resumed its Beijing Capital-Tijuana-Mexico City service following a four-year hiatus.
The Chinese carrier is operating the route twice a week with two-class Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.
The Hainan 787-9s deployed to Mexico feature 30 1-2-1 business class and 262 3-3-3 economy class seats, based on its latest schedule filings.
The carrier currently has approximately 30 787-9s in service, with some featuring a less attractive 2-2-2 configuration in business class.
From Beijing’s Capital Airport, the Hainan flights will depart every Monday and Friday at 2035, arriving in Tijuana at 1755 before continuing on to Mexico City at 1955 for a midnight arrival into the Mexican capital.
The return flights depart Mexico City at 0200 each Tuesday and Saturday, stopping over in Tijuana again for two hours from 0415 to 0615, and arriving in Beijing at 0955 the next day.
In other Hainan updates, the airline will launch a twice-weekly Shenzhen-Budapest service, also with its two-class 787-9s, from 2 August.
Hainan is the second Chinese carrier to add service to Mexico this summer. In May, China Southern Airlines launched a twice-weekly Shenzhen-Mexico City service with its A350-900 aircraft.
The outbound flight from Shenzhen is nonstop, while the inbound also requires a refueling stop in Tijuana owing to the weaker aircraft operating performance from high-altitude Mexico City airport.
