Brazil Inflation Slowed in March

SÃO PAULO–Brazil’s inflation slowed in March from the previous month and from a year earlier after the cost of diesel fuel and household goods declined in the month.

Consumer prices increased 0.71% from February, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, or IBGE, said Tuesday. From a year earlier, consumer prices were up 4.65%. In February, consumer prices rose 0.84% from the previous month and 5.60% from a year earlier.

The price of diesel fuel declined 3.71% in March, though the drop was offset by an 8.33% increase in the price of gasoline. The prices of household articles declined 0.27% after the price of television, sound and personal computer equipment fell 1.77% for the month, the IBGE said.
