On November 16, 2022 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and State Councilor Wang Yi met at request with Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard on the sidelines of the G20 Bali Summit. The two sides agreed to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to strengthen strategic communication and coordination, and keep enriching the China-Mexico comprehensive strategic partnership.

Ebrard thanked China for providing large quantities of anti-pandemic materials and sending medical experts to Mexico. The Mexican People will never forget this invaluable support. It’s Mexico’s firm and clear choice to develop friendly relations with China. Mexico will continue its support for China in safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests, actively advance Belt and Road cooperation, further enhance high-level mutual trust between the two sides, and deepen cooperation between the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries and China.

Wang Yi said that China will also continue its firm support for Mexico in safeguarding its core interests. Both China and Mexico are independent countries and important emerging economies, and they always respect each other and treat each other as equals. The bilateral relationship does not target any third party. Instead, it goes in parallel with the two sides’ respective external exchanges. Wang Yi expressed the hope that the two countries will seek greater synergy between their development strategies, and expand pragmatic cooperation in various fields. China appreciates Mexico’s role in promoting China-LAC relations, and stands ready to make joint efforts with Mexico to deepen China-LAC cooperation and realize common development.
