Michail Antonio’s CONCACAF Gold Cup hopes were ended by Mexico on Wednesday night as Jamaica suffered a 3-0 defeat at the semi-final stage.
The Reggae Boyz headed into the Las Vegas clash with hopes of progressing to a third-ever continental final but found themselves up against it from the off, as Mexico’s Henry Martin gave his side a second minute lead.
A precise free-kick by Pachuca midfielder Luis Chávez then doubled El Tri’s advantage on the half-hour.
Jamaica battled gamely after the break and had their chances to haul themselves back into the contest, with Antonio firing narrowly wide from outside the box and later forcing a low save from veteran stopper Guillermo Ochoa.
However, Mexico stood firm and confirmed victory with an injury-time third through Roberto Alvarado.
Mexico head through to the final, where Panama lay in wait, while Jamaica will reflect on a promising campaign ahead of next year’s start of qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
